My sister Vanessa Berretta is 24 years old and her biggest passion is cooking. We chose to include her in our blog because we know how dedicated she is at preparing dishes and how talented she is at putting her own twist to old traditional recipes. Our family has always been interested in cooking and have always used the time took cook as a time to share between family. Growing up, Vanessa has always helped in the kitchen and always volunteered to cook the meal without any help. Luckily, she met her soul mate who is also an eager cook. When they take control of the kitchen, nobody gets in their way. They create great meals together and always accomplish what they desire to make! Vanessa's goal is to open her own catering company and introduce her italian cuisine to friends and family who appreciate food. Marie and I chose to interview my sister and ask her question about her interests in cooking and what she hopes to accomplish in the future.
How did you learn to cook?
Vanessa; "I started cooking when I was only 14 years-old. I think it was when my mom had invited people over for dinner, I volunteered to help her prepare dishes and chop different vegetables she needed help with."
Was your mom your inspiration or do you have a cook that inspires you to achieve your goals?
Vanessa; " My mom is a great inspiration for me. She is the one who has taught me a lot about cooking and baking. Although, I do love to watch the Food Network Channel. It really has guided me through many of my accomplished dinner. Many of the cooks on the Food Network Channel have taught me methods I didn't know and have introduced me to ingredients I had never used before. My mom and I always help each other in the kitchen, so we both learn together and hope to cook together as long as we can.
Do you hope to open your own restaurant someday?
Vanessa; " No, I would rather start my own catering company. I think that restaurants are a lot of work, and I have worked for a whole year at a local restaurant near my house. I was the cook at "La Creprie" and prepared breakfast for at least 40 clients everyday. It was a really hard task because you always needed to be on time and check if the food was exactly as they ordered and of course properly cooked.
Have you always known you wanted to open your own catering company?
Vanessa; " No, I recently finished my bachelor degree in Sociology, as I was striving to be an event planner. Cooking has always been a hobby of mine but I never saw it as being a proffession. Now that I am 24 years old, I realize that it may be something I want to continue doing in my life.
Do you simply cook one type of cuisine?
Vanessa; "I usually try and cook a variety of different foods, although I love cooking Italian food. I am Italian and half french, so I try to incorporate both in my dishes and prepare unordinary foods. My italian grandmother loves to teach me dishes that have been pass down through our family because she hopes that one day I can continue the recipes and pass them down to my family. I believe all of my dishes are made from my heart and soul and highlights our culture.
Here are some dishes that she has created in the past week.

The first is a set of dishes that she created for a dinner party with her friends, Marie and I were invited to join and evaluate her different dishes.
4.5/5
Our experience was incredible. Her friends enjoyed the food as much as we did. None of us were expecting her dishes to be as professional as they looked. Everything was made from scratch including the sauce and dough. Her presentation of the food made it very interesting for the "eaters" eye. We couldn't wait to jump in and try everything she had made. Here are some pictures of the food we ate!
